Watervliet

In the case of Watervliet Farm, 7 families are facing evictions from the farm, known as Watervliet. These families have all  been served with eviction notices. The matter was set down for the 4th of December 2008. In the interim we have filed our Notice of Opposition and Answering Affidavits in each application and now await the Applicant's Replying Affidavit, before the 7 cases are set down for argument at the Paarl Magistrates Court. These seven families translates to a total of 37persons, including males, females and children facing evictions. In all the cases, the families do not have suitable alternative accommodation. Some have been on the Housing waiting list of the Drakenstein Municipality since 2006 and then re-applied for Housing, to date there have been no positive responses regarding their applications.  The latter furthermore includes 17 minor children that will be affected by the evictions. In casu, the landowner has furthermore disconnected the water supply to the households and refuses to sell electricity to the households. In relation to water, they are currently collecting water from a nearby communal tap and in relation to the electricity, our offices will institute interlocutary proceedings for the restoration of their electricity services.
